Development on the west side of the Rio Grande River did not really take off until the 1980’s. Until then there was only one river crossing in the north at Alameda and the river crossing to the south on I-40. Lack of access severely limited growth. Local Political leaders put together the money for a “New” Bridge called Paseo Del Norte. With the added access for commuters housing starts jumped and new schools were built.
Today’s Westside is in some respects its own area. People live, work, shop & have numerous recreational opportunities on the Westside. Large employers have built facilities along I-40 to be closer to the workforce. Today new housing subdivisions dot the west side and home resales are very strong because it is a great place to live and work.
